Wellness

Kalas Manufacturing has set itself apart from other manufacturing companies in a number of ways. Perhaps most importantly, it has been our commitment to our associate’s wellness and our efforts to create a strong culture of engagement. We firmly believe that a happy, healthier workforce creates a better end product.
Kalas is committed to enhancing the health of all of our associates, and to do so, we instituted a comprehensive Wellness Program in 2003. We believe that by providing an environment that supports healthy and balanced lifestyle choices, associates are given the best opportunity to succeed. This is accomplished by providing a planned package of health education awareness programs as well as supporting promotional activities throughout the year.
The Kalas wellness program is called Be Well. The program is led by a full-time onsite wellness coordinator. Every associate may participate in one of two levels. The first level is based on the following four criteria: tobacco use, blood pressure, bodyfat and cholesterol levels. The second level is a collective use of onsite resources such as participation in wellness events, health risk appraisal, spouse participation, physical examinations and age-appropriate preventative screenings.
Overall the program has paid big dividends for Kalas Manufacturing. Beyond the obvious health benefits for associates, the Kalas investment in wellness has resulted in lower healthcare costs, lower medical leave absenteeism rates, higher prescription compliance and associates have reported they are better able to care for themselves and their families.
